NO QUESTION:
There is no question that our community schools need help. Programs focused on teaching and working with autistic children add another burden to already under-funded educational programs. Towns are required to provide teachers and space for the special education programs, but then the challenge becomes a scramble to find equipment, tools and supplies suitable for children with autism, finding and funding personnel to staff this new classroom.
IMMEDIATE NEEDS:
The immediate physical needs are usually child size tables chairs and desks.
Cubbies, tables, room dividers, mirrors, appropriate toys, music players and earphones are also needed. Ideally an indoor “play-scape” would save dress-up and dress-down time when children need organized physical activity.
FUTURE GOALS:
We’d also love to be able to provide funds for---
--- yearly, pre-semester training for teaching assistants.
---teacher in-service training.
---scholarships for regular classroom “volunteers”.
---a summertime activity program for children in the autism spectrum.
